The first name of the publication was the Voree Herald (volume 1 numbers 1 through 10). The name was changed to Zion's Reveille in November 1846 with volume 1 number 11 and continued through volume 2 number 26 (September 16, 1847). The name was changed to Gospel Herald on September 23, 1847 with volume 2 number 27 & 28 (combined numbers) and continued through volume 5. The last date of the publication was June 6, 1850 (volume 5 number 12 which was whole number 180). James J. Strang was the editor.
