Article on preaching and the use of notes. Brother Lewis states, "Preaching from notes is a custom very extensively practiced in the religious world. Some have their entire sermons written or in a printed form, which have been carefully prepared and revised from time to time. Almost invariably the minister, before presenting his sermon to the audience, asks the Lord to give him of his Spirit that he may present such thoughts as will be food for the assembly. In my judgment there is no consistency in asking the Lord to bring to his (the minister's) mind that which shall be food for the congregation, when he has before him all that he intends to present."

The author states, "READER, before deciding there is no justification for publishing a tract such as the title of this one suggests, will you not pause long enough to ask yourself, Is it possible that 'Errors and inconsistencies' do really exist in the 'dominant church in Utah,' respecting a matter of such vital importance as THE PRESIDENCY? The revelations of God through Joseph the Seer do not ascribe, not even to men of the church, papal infallibility, and invite an affirmative answer to this question; ''Yes; it is possible.' 'But there is a possibility that man may fall from grace and depart from the living God.'-Doc. and Cov. 17:6. Utah edition, section 20. Have the men of the Utah church 'departed from the living God'? Have they 'fallen from grace'?"

The author states, "It is only necessary to observe that the word reorganized expresses a condition, and is made to apply to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and not to some other church; hence another church is not implied, but the same one after having been reorganized. In this tract we shall not enter into a detailed discussion of the technical points of difference between the two churches, the Reorganization and the organization in Utah. The work in hand does not demand this of us."

"Reader, are you a member of the Utah Mormon church? If so, read this pamphlet. It is written especially for your benefit. You believe Joseph Smith was a prophet of God. Therefore, let us compare the most important doctrine of the Utah church with his revelations, as published in your own edition of the Doctrine and Covenants. To determine what the doctrines of your church are, we shall appeal to the teachings of its recognized authorities, as set forth in your own church publications."

24 page tract on the necessity of water baptism for salvation. Brother Luff states, "To us, this question sounds about the same as would the inquiry, 'Is faith in God necessary?' We cannot understand why it should be asked by persons who have read the Bible carefully for themselves; but it is being asked, and that, too, by honest and intelligent persons. Hence we venture a very plain answer, and a few plain reasons for that answer. We shall use the Bible in so doing, believing that God's word will be taken in preference to ours. Our answer is, 'Yes, water baptism is essential to salvation.'"
