He states, "And thus after the long apostasy the Church began to come forth out of the wilderness and was restored in its original organic form with apostles and prophets. It was restored with all the gifts and blessings, the doctrines, ordinances, and sacraments of the old Jerusalem church. It comes to us bearing in its hands the three witnesses of the written word; the Bible, the Book of Mormon and the Book of Doctrine and Covenants, the last named representing the still open canon of scripture, unique and unlike anything else in the modern religious world. These three books agree in one. In the beginning of the Restoration then one voice was heard in prayer and then in testimony, but the voice behind the veil from time to time called others. And so they came one by one saying here am I Lord, send me. The voice is still calling, calling your name, and mine, and others in many lands."

He states, "At a certain time of my life it became necessary for me, especially since I was asked to accept a position that is unique among all the organizations of the world, to give considerable thought to this question of how God shall reveal himself to his people. There was a disposition at one time on my part to limit God as to how he should reveal his will. But I passed this point and have been able to say, If thou, oh God, art desirous of revealing thy will to us, or to me, be it far from me to say how. And so we still stand for one of the fundamental ideals of the church, and that is not only belief in God, but a sure and secure belief that God will reveal his will to us, and speak to us in his own language and in his own way."

He states, "the principle it teaches is applicable to every revelation that God has ever given to man, whether the revelation be long or short, whether it contains ten words or ten thousand words. Man has no right to add to nor take from anything that God has given-has no right to do so now, never did have the right to do so, and never will have. You will remember the text says: 'If any man shall add to,' or 'take from,' etc., nothing said about what God proposes to do in the premises; there is nothing said about whether he will give more revelations, or whether he will withhold them. Mind you, he places this restriction upon man, and leaves himself free to do as seemeth him good."
This electronic publication copyright © 2017 LatterDayTruth.org; All Rights Reserved.Discusses salvation. "I know it is a common idea, or at least it is one that is frequently taught, that there is nothing for man to do, so far as the salvation of his soul is concerned, only to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ...but while we believe that faith is absolutely necessary, and that it is impossible to please God without it, we also believe that there are certain works required on the part of men, which are just as essential, just as necessary to his salvation, as it is that he believe. Now, if you take the position that men are saved by faith alone, then it seems to me that you would have to admit that Satan himself will be saved, because the Apostle James has said: 'Thou believes that there is one God; thou doest well; the devils also believe, and tremble' So you see if you have nothing only faith to recommend you to God, you have the same that they have."

He states, "On the day of Pentecost there was a miraculous display of God's power, causing unlearned Galileans to speak in languages they had never learned, but the only effect it seems to have had upon the multitude of unbelievers, was to cause them to marvel, some even going so far as to accuse them of being drunken. But while they stood in this bewildered, confused state of mind, Peter stood up and preached to them the gospel of Christ, the word of truth, and "when they heard these things they were pricked in their hearts," (Acts 2: 3 7), and began to inquire what they should do. Hence, you see that while a miraculous display of power may beget any amount of wonder and astonishment, it takes the word of truth to beget a gospel faith in the heart of man."

It was given on June 26, 1955 at 11 a.m. at the Stone Church, Independence, Missouri, USA. He states, "Now John [the Baptist], as a prophet of God, ushered in one of the principle dispensations, and that was the dispensation of the Messiah. And we believe that Joseph Smith [jr.] ushered in another dispensation, and in that respect, they are equal to each other. But I would not attempt to compare them becuase comparisons are, they say, invidious. But I believe that we have a right to assume that from this little story, this little account, in the 11th chapter of Matthew, that the Lord was indicating at least three things in respect to a prophet that probably were esential, to a prophet."

Discusses polygamy (and that Joseph Smith Jr. was not responsible for it), the three witnesses to the Book of Mormon, and the revelations in the Book of Commandments being corrected in the Doctrine & Covenants. Also states, "Concerning the One Mighty and Strong, I think you will have a great deal of difficulty in proving that the choice seer was to be a Lamanite. That was an afterthought of men who had lost the Spirit of God and his work, and had gone out of the church. In the original manuscript of the Book of Mormon the reading is very clear, in the prophecy of Joseph concerning the fruit of his loins. It was not the fruit of Lehi's or Nephi's loins, but the fruit of Joseph's loins, (Joseph of Egypt), that was to produce the choice seer. Our people should be careful that they read from the correct records instead of from a Brighamite or some other corrupted record. The Brighamite Book of Mormon is wrong on that point."
