The author states, "There is much quibbling and doubt among Christian churches throughout the land regarding secret societies. The question, 'Are Secret Societies Right or Wrong,' is one of vital importance. That the vitals of this great nation are being eaten out, religiously and politically, there is no doubt, and we will proceed to show that all lodgery, secret associations, or secret combinations, beneficiary insurance societies, where none are admitted but members of the order, are the true church of the devil."

M. (Lamoni. ed.) p. 60-4; pp. 464-466; letter to W. W. Phelps, Nov. 27, 1832. Baurak or Barak is Hebrew for lightning-thunderbolt. Ale is a phonetic spelling of the Hebrew sounding of the name Eli, shortening of the name Elijah or Elias, which means my God-See Matt. 27, 46 and 47."

The ministry of at least the Reorganized Church, has been long teaching that truth and three years ago Revelations 128 and 129, D. & C., were included in the Church covenant as that direction of God which we are morally and spiritually bound to put into operation without unnecessary delay."

D. & C., Sec. 100-4-5-6. I am not complaining of this humiliation; for it is humiliation in the view of worldly men only."

The author states, "The Lord having definitely directed us to wait until after Zion's redemption, by what right does the Bishop now proceed to give out stewardships connected with 'the commandments concerning Zion?' Let us further consider consecration and stewardships."

Peterson states, "Because the faith of Christ has always been opposed by certain classes, the Latter-day Saints are not above their Master in having their cause misrepresented by both pulpit and press, and themselves frowned upon by those who are ignorant of their faith. Because of this misrepresentation, many persons who have heard or read only the reverse side, often ask themselves the question: 'Is it right to go and hear them?' It is right and honorable to hear any one claiming to have the truth, that one may know for himself whether or not the claim is true and not be dependent on biased rumor."
This electronic publication copyright © 2016 LatterDayTruth.org; All Rights Reserved. The Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints arose from the fact that there had been a departure from the New Testament faith, and this ancient faith was restored by divine revelation. The apostasy from the primitive faith consisted of a series of errors that were added from time to time and which were taught in the name of the Christian religion. During the Reformation various attempts were made to reform the church. Thus many churches arose which taught conflicting doctrines and caused great religious confusion. But it has been generally admitted that none of them restored the simplicity and purity of the faith as it was in the New Testament age. Neither could they do so, for the faith was of God, divinely revealed, and manifested his power; therefore only God could cause it to be restored.

Elder Phillips states, "While divers creeds and doctrines of men are being preached throughout the world, honest-hearted men and women everywhere are longing, and their souls yearning, for the truth as Jesus and his disciples taught it; and while they pant for a refreshing drink from the fountain of the 'water of life' at which disciples of olden time were so freely filled, their eager hearts are again and again disappointed by the mirage - seemingly so real - which the delusive theories of men present before them. To such this message is addressed with confidence, nay, with certainty, that if they will step out into the sunlight of God's love by obeying the gospel as taught by those whom he has sent to proclaim it, as found in his word, their hungry souls will be fed, and their drooping spirits refreshed by that heavenly power which the followers of Christ in ancient time enjoyed."

This electronic publication copyright © 2014 LatterDayTruth.org; All Rights Reserved.48 page pamphlet by Parley P. Pratt against L. R. Sunderland, editor of the Zion's Watchman paper. He states, "We propose in this work, to prove to every candid mind, that whether our principles be true or false Mr. Sunderland is guilty of the most glaring falsehoods, misrepresentations, and lying slanders, that ever disgraced humanity; and that he has palmed upon his deluded. readers, such wilful and barefaced imposition, that. he is justly ranked among dogs, sorcerers, whoremongers, murderers, and idolaters; and no longer fit to fill any place in civilized society; much less to stand at the head of a paper, under the sacred title of 'Zion's Watchman.' If his readers do not dismiss his paper immediately, after coming to a knowledge of his wickedness, they will be set down as partakers of his evil deeds; and if they hold him any longer in fellowship either as a christian or a member of society, the proverb will be fulfilled upon them, 'that a man is known by the company he keeps.'"
