It is held by the great masses of the Christian world today, those that claim to believe in the Holy Scriptures, that the Spirit of God after its ancient manifestations and operations is not to be expected in these days; that it was the design of God that it should be limited chiefly to the apostolic age and that it then should pass away in its extraordinary and supernatural manifestations. That is about the way they put it; but I do not know of any natural manifestation of the Holy Spirit as contradistinguished from that which is supernatural. As a religious body we believe and so teach."

From the necessities and nature of the work there must be the movements of divinity in it, either openly or covertly. That it involves the welfare of humanity, I need not argue, hence a proper understanding of its nature is important."
This electronic publication copyright © 2013 LatterDayTruth.org; All Rights Reserved.Brother Blair states, "It would seem in reading the history of the past, and observing as we may at the present, that God has implanted in the human soul a longing after life, and an intuitive belief, a perception if you please, that there is a life that lies beyond the grave; and at the same time he has impressed upon the soul of the sons of men in all ages of the world that their future condition will depend largely upon the conduct and character exhibited by them in this present life."

Joseph Smith, the young seer; he claimed to receive angelic ministrations, not only from Moroni, but from various other angels in the founding and building up of the church of the living God. Jesus said that angels would administer in the latter times; John said that an angel would deliver the gospel in the latter times, and that, as we have just read, one would come down from heaven, having great power and would enlighten the earth with his glory. And now what are we going to do about these things? Will we believe them? God's precious word makes these promises."

Time will not allow us to enlarge upon it further, but suffice it to say that Jesus Christ has proved the possibilities of humanity. This electronic publication copyright © 2016 LatterDayTruth.org; All Rights Reserved.Tract by I. M. Smith. He states, "On the day of Pentecost there was a miraculous display of God's power, causing unlearned Galileans to speak in languages they had never learned, but the only effect it seems to have had upon the multitude of unbelievers, was to cause them to marvel, some even going so far as to accuse them of being drunken. But while they stood in this bewildered, confused state of mind, Peter stood up and preached to them the gospel of Christ, the word of truth, and "when they heard these things they were pricked in their hearts," (Acts 2: 3 7), and began to inquire what they should do. Hence, you see that while a miraculous display of power may beget any amount of wonder and astonishment, it takes the word of truth to beget a gospel faith in the heart of man."
This electronic publication copyright © 2017 LatterDayTruth.org; All Rights Reserved.Discusses claims about ancient civilizations in America and their relation to the Book of Mormon. Brother Stebbins states, "...the Book of Mormon is a history of God's dealings with a certain portion of the Hebrew race, an account of the wanderings and experiences of a colony which came to America before the Babylonish captivity. For the Lord had declared by Moses that he would yet scatter Israel 'from the one end of the earth even unto the other.' (Deut. 28: 64.)"

This electronic publication copyright © 2014 LatterDayTruth.org; All Rights Reserved.Discusses salvation. "I know it is a common idea, or at least it is one that is frequently taught, that there is nothing for man to do, so far as the salvation of his soul is concerned, only to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ...but while we believe that faith is absolutely necessary, and that it is impossible to please God without it, we also believe that there are certain works required on the part of men, which are just as essential, just as necessary to his salvation, as it is that he believe. Now, if you take the position that men are saved by faith alone, then it seems to me that you would have to admit that Satan himself will be saved, because the Apostle James has said: 'Thou believes that there is one God; thou doest well; the devils also believe, and tremble' So you see if you have nothing only faith to recommend you to God, you have the same that they have."

This electronic publication copyright © 2014 LatterDayTruth.org; All Rights Reserved. The author states, "READER, before deciding there is no justification for publishing a tract such as the title of this one suggests, will you not pause long enough to ask yourself, Is it possible that 'Errors and inconsistencies' do really exist in the 'dominant church in Utah,' respecting a matter of such vital importance as THE PRESIDENCY? The revelations of God through Joseph the Seer do not ascribe, not even to men of the church, papal infallibility, and invite an affirmative answer to this question; ''Yes; it is possible.' 'But there is a possibility that man may fall from grace and depart from the living God.'-Doc. and Cov. 17:6. Utah edition, section 20. Have the men of the Utah church 'departed from the living God'? This electronic publication copyright © 2017 LatterDayTruth.org; All Rights Reserved.24 page tract on the necessity of water baptism for salvation. Brother Luff states, "To us, this question sounds about the same as would the inquiry, 'Is faith in God necessary?' We cannot understand why it should be asked by persons who have read the Bible carefully for themselves; but it is being asked, and that, too, by honest and intelligent persons. Hence we venture a very plain answer, and a few plain reasons for that answer. We shall use the Bible in so doing, believing that God's word will be taken in preference to ours. Our answer is, 'Yes, water baptism is essential to salvation.'"
This electronic publication copyright © 2017 LatterDayTruth.org; All Rights Reserved. The author states, "It is only necessary to observe that the word reorganized expresses a condition, and is made to apply to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and not to some other church; hence another church is not implied, but the same one after having been reorganized. The work in hand does not demand this of us."

In the first place the statement made by the angel to him who was chosen as the earthly instrument by which the church should be represented abroad, and should find its organization, was that the declarations of belief, or the creeds, were an abomination in God's sight."

The excuse offered for issuing this pamphlet, assigned, was because of a telegram being sent to the Senate Committee in the Smoot case, by some one of the Reorganized Church, in which it was alleged that the 'Prophet Joseph Smith did not introduce the revelations on polygamy or practice it;' with a reference to the president of the Reorganized Church and Wm. Peterson states, "Because the faith of Christ has always been opposed by certain classes, the Latter-day Saints are not above their Master in having their cause misrepresented by both pulpit and press, and themselves frowned upon by those who are ignorant of their faith. Because of this misrepresentation, many persons who have heard or read only the reverse side, often ask themselves the question: 'Is it right to go and hear them?' The author states, "What we do in life are very largely matters of selection. Our work, our study, our associates, our recreation and amusement, all are matters of selection. Some will say this is not correct. But we are very certain that almost all conditions are the results directly or indirectly of our own choice. Much that is may be brought upon us by our ignorance of conditions or things. Or it may seem that 'circumstances over which we have no control' bring it about. But while we may not be able to control the circumstances, we could prevent them or avoid them, or, once on us, can escape them, if to do so is a matter of our selection. That we must do something is not a matter of our choice. God so elected that we should labor. But what we do or what we study, or what we are is very largely a matter of our own selection."

Brother Lewis states, "Preaching from notes is a custom very extensively practiced in the religious world. Some have their entire sermons written or in a printed form, which have been carefully prepared and revised from time to time. Almost invariably the minister, before presenting his sermon to the audience, asks the Lord to give him of his Spirit that he may present such thoughts as will be food for the assembly. In my judgment there is no consistency in asking the Lord to bring to his (the minister's) mind that which shall be food for the congregation, when he has before him all that he intends to present."
